What is an APA Title Page?

APA Title Page

An APA title page is the first page of a document formatted according to the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) style. It serves to provide essential information about the document, such as the title, author(s), institutional affiliation, and other pertinent details. Here's how to format an APA title page:

  1. Title:

    • The title of the document should be centered horizontally and vertically on the page.
    • It should be concise and accurately reflect the content of the document.
    • Use title case, capitalizing the first letter of important words.
    • Avoid using abbreviations or unnecessary words.
  2. Author(s):

    • Below the title, list the author(s) of the document.
    • Include the author's first name, middle initial (if available), and last name.
    • If there are multiple authors, separate their names with commas.
    • If the document is authored by a group or organization, list the group or organization name instead of individual names.
  3. Institutional Affiliation:

    • Below the author(s) names, include the institutional affiliation.
    • This typically refers to the academic institution or organization where the author(s) are affiliated.
    • Include the department, school, or program name, and the location of the institution (e.g., city and state).
  4. Course Information:

    • Optionally, you may include information about the course or class for which the document is being submitted.
    • This may include the course name or number, the instructor's name, and the date of submission.
  5. Running Head:

    • For most student papers, the running head is not required. However, for professional or published documents, it is customary to include a running head.
    • The running head is a short version of the title that appears at the top of each page.
    • It should be no more than 50 characters, including spaces and punctuation.
    • It is aligned to the left in the header section of the page.
  6. Page Number:

    • In the top-right corner of the page, insert a page number.
    • The page number should be preceded by the title of the document in all capital letters, known as the "short title."

The APA title page should be formatted according to specific guidelines regarding font, spacing, and margins. It is typically the first page of a research paper, essay, report, or other academic document written in APA style.
