Global Warming
- Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature, primarily due to human activities such as burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas), deforestation, and industrial processes. These activities release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) into the atmosphere.
- These greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun, preventing it from escaping back into space, thus leading to a warming effect known as the greenhouse effect. This warming contributes to various environmental changes, including rising sea levels, shifts in weather patterns, more frequent and intense extreme weather events, and disruptions to ecosystems and biodiversity.
Global warming is a critical component of climate change, which encompasses broader changes in temperature, precipitation, and other climate patterns over extended periods, affecting regions and ecosystems worldwide.
