10 benefits of learning music that will change your life!

10 benefits of music

Ive been playing, performing, teaching, and learning music for nearly 25 years, and theres one question people often ask me: Why should I learn to play music? What are the advantages of learning music? Why would I invest time and money in something that wont be useful in my professional career? Why not use the time to learn about financial investments or leadership skills? Things like finance and leadership matter. Ive worked as a business development executive in a multinational corporation for a large part of my life, and Im a huge advocate of both of these career disciplines. Recently, Ive been exploring the entrepreneurial path, and my training and history as a business professional has allowed me to turn Liberty Park Music into a successful, high quality online music school. The influence of music may be less obvious than that of finance and leadership, but it may be just as important in alternative ways. It builds the soft skills that make a difference in both your professional and personal life. Today, I am going to share 10 benefits of learning music that will affect your life and in a good way. There are many more benefits of learning music than these, but I consider these the most prominent.

Music Does Wonders To Your Health:

  • Research has shown that playing music lowers your blood pressure, reduces stress and anxiety levels. It can even strengthen your immunological response, making you more resistant to viruses (a feature we can all benefit from lately...). More importantly, music can be learned and played even in old age and is a social activity that can keep our minds active. It is especially important to protect ourselves from mind-related diseases such as Alzheimers disease and dementia.

Music Can Make You Smarter:

  • Smart_small Many studies have shown that learning music can improve brain development when it is adopted at a young age. But what if we have already passed through adolescence? It turns out that learning to sing at an older age can do wonders for your mind too. In a study at the University of South Florida, adults between the ages of 60 and 85 were given piano lessons. After six months, they showed improved memory, verbal fluency, information processing skills and other cognitive functions.

Music can help build self-esteem:

  • Have you ever wondered how some seasoned musicians can get on stage in front of hundreds, even thousands of people and perform just like they were born to do something else? Regardless of who you are, it takes a lot of confidence and strength to get on stage and bare your soul to an audience. Sometimes even the greatest musicians suffer from performance anxiety! Learning music allows you to put yourself in potentially uncomfortable performance situations and learn to overcome anxiety. The audience need not be huge; You might be performing for just one person or your partner, but when you pull off a performance, youll feel a whole lot better about yourself! And the best part is, youll carry that confidence into other areas of your life.

Music teaches perseverance and discipline

  • They say that the best things in life are worth the wait. Through music, you can learn that they are also suitable for working. To learn to play music we need to work consistently for a good period of time. It requires commitment and perseverance, and resilience to the natural ebb and flow of our daily enthusiasms. But there are few things as satisfying as knowing youve successfully mastered a piece youve been dying to learn, and it was your patience and discipline with the music training process that allowed you to do it.

Music boosts creativity:

  • According to Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, music allows you to see beyond what you currently have and express yourself in a new way. Music is about understanding the basic rules and then expressing yourself in the form of sound. Writing your own songs, improvising solos, and reworking existing songs are all ways that musicians create something. It is no wonder that numerous successful people have studied music at some point in their lives.

Music also helps you connect with others:

  • connection-(universal-language)-small The song is well received all over the world. Think how many of us can enjoy music in a language we dont speak or understand very little. You might be surprised how music can bring you closer to people, especially if you have to interact with people from other cultures. If you ever find yourself short on topics to talk about, ask the other person what his/her favorite song is and if youre musically savvy, you might just start a great conversation.

Music can also help you learn teamwork:

  • When you are playing with other musicians, it is always important to listen to your team-mates and watch their facial and body language. Only then can you decide how you want to play your instrument to seamlessly blend with the music. This ability to listen to what everyone is playing and find a better solution translates into other areas of your life and can make you a great team-player.

Music is a wonderful stress reliever:

We all have busy lives, and there will be times when we feel like our heads are bursting with what is happening. Consequently, we want to get rid of stress. Watching shows, playing games, socializing with others, eating, drinking, smoking – these and many other activities fall within the commonly defined limits of stress relief. Not all of them (as youve noticed) are completely healthy, and relatively few of them successfully manage to combine actual stress relief with any kind of achievement. Rest_1 in the middle Heres a thought: How about going to a jamming session and letting go of all the stress with your instrument instead? Playing music is a wonderful way to take your mind off something. It doesnt harm your health, it lets you release your frustrations, it costs nothing, and youll probably gain a bunch of close musician friends while youre at it.

Fun music:

  • Last but definitely not least: fun to play music! Learning to play music may take some effort, but learning something with so many beneficial possibilities is rarely easy. And when you get to that level of being able to play the music youve always wanted, it can be totally cool. It starts with a sense of achievement and then it becomes a whole confidence thing when you play for others. When you play with others, it becomes a complete enjoyment. Its a healthy addiction thats a lot of fun, and I promise that you wont regret making the decision to learn music. At Liberty Park Music, we teach music lovers like you the power of creating beautiful music. But the benefits extend beyond learning music. You will also get the benefits listed above first hand. So check out our course and start your musical journey.

Music can enhance your social life:

  • When you learn to play an instrument, youre also learning how to create something beautiful for your loved ones to enjoy, which can bring you closer to them and help you form a deeper connection. If you decide to play music in public, you can make some new friends. Musicians who play together often develop a sense of camaraderie, one common among collaborators who collectively can produce much more than an individual. Nothing beats an old fashioned jamming/hangout session with other musicians, and the bonds and friendships you can form during them are priceless.

Thank You
