  1. Competence:

    • Definition: Competence refers to having a sense of self-efficacy and the ability to effectively handle and master challenges. It involves having the necessary skills and resources to cope with difficult situations.
    • Application: Building competence involves developing and honing skills in areas such as problem-solving, communication, emotional regulation, and adaptability.
  2. Confidence:

    • Definition: Confidence is the belief in one's abilities and a positive outlook on one's capacity to navigate challenges successfully. It involves having self-assurance and a belief that one can influence outcomes.
    • Application: Fostering confidence includes cultivating a positive mindset, recognizing past successes, and developing a sense of self-efficacy.
  3. Connection:

    • Definition: Connection emphasizes the importance of social support and positive relationships. It involves maintaining strong connections with family, friends, and community, providing a sense of belonging and support.
    • Application: Building and nurturing positive relationships, seeking social support, and maintaining a sense of community contribute to connection.
  4. Character:

    • Definition: Character involves having a strong sense of values, ethics, and integrity. It emphasizes the importance of having a clear moral compass and maintaining a sense of purpose and meaning in life.
    • Application: Building character includes clarifying personal values, setting ethical standards, and aligning one's actions with core principles.
  5. Contribution:

    • Definition: Contribution highlights the positive impact that helping others and making a difference can have on resilience. It involves contributing to one's community and finding a sense of purpose through meaningful actions.
    • Application: Engaging in acts of kindness, volunteering, and contributing to the well-being of others enhance the sense of contribution.
  6. Coping:

    • Definition: Coping refers to the ability to effectively manage stress and adversity. It involves developing adaptive coping strategies and skills to navigate challenges without being overwhelmed.
    • Application: Developing healthy coping mechanisms, such as problem-solving, emotional regulation, and seeking support, contributes to effective coping.
  7. Control:

    • Definition: Control involves recognizing and focusing on aspects of a situation that can be influenced or controlled. It emphasizes the importance of taking proactive steps and maintaining a sense of agency.
    • Application: Focusing on areas within one's control, setting realistic goals, and taking proactive steps contribute to a sense of control.

 

These 7 Cs provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the various factors and skills that contribute to resilience. By cultivating these characteristics, individuals can enhance their ability to adapt positively to life's challenges and thrive in the face of adversity.
