Describe some economic benefits of rivers and lakes!

A lake is a body of water surrounded by land. The water in the lake is calm or stagnant. That is, it does not flow from point A to point B like a river. Lakes are mostly freshwater because they are often fed by rivers, springs, or rainfall. However, some of the more famous lakes, such as the Dead Sea and the Great Salt Lake, are salt lakes and contain only salt water.

Use of the lake

Helps in carrying loads: Lakes are an excellent medium for carrying heavy loads. Large lakes, such as the Great Lakes of North America, provide a very cheap and convenient way to transport heavy and heavy goods such as iron, coal, machinery, grain, and lumber.

Water Storage

  • Natural or artificial lakes are an important source of inland water supply. They supply water to cities and industrial towns. In England, for example, Lake Thirlmere waters Manchester, Lake Catrine waters Glasgow, and Lake Vyrnwy Wells waters Liverpool. In India, Okla Reservoir supplies water to Delhi. While Veteran, Bihar, and Tulsi lake water, Bombay.

Lakes are the gateway to economic and industrial development:

  • In the past, human settlements were established where the lake was located, and the existence of the lake had a significant impact on the buildings of the city. People migrated near the lake to obtain water, which gave rise to civilization, leading to economic and industrial growth in the region. Lakes are even more decisive if they are fed by fertile large rivers.

Hydro-Electric Power Generation:

  • In mountainous regions, lakes or man-made reservoirs provide water for local hydroelectric power generation. At the same time, natural lakes are preferable to artificial ones. The Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, is regularly supplied with this water to support the operation of the power plant.

Importance of the Lake

Lakes are usually formed as a result of tectonic or glacial activity in a common area. Lakes are also formed as a result of meandering of rivers or human activities. Lakes are very important to civilization. There are many reasons to mention. Because lakes are sources of water and water is a definite source for sustaining life on this planet.

  1. To control the flow of rivers and streams.
  2. Water conservation during dry season.
  3. Maintaining and balancing the ecosystem.
  4. The lake also helps in recharging the ground water.
  5. The lake helps to improve and preserve the biodiversity of the area where it is located.
  6. The lake also benefits the economy by increasing local economic activity.
  7. Sightseeing was given priority, as the lake has always been considered a resting place.
  8. India has different types of lakes including freshwater lakes and salt lakes. The famous Lake Ula in Jammu and
  9. Kashmir is the largest freshwater lake in India. Other freshwater lakes are Lake Bimetal and Lake Nainital, located in Dal, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir. Kolleru Lake is also located in Andhra Pradesh. This lake Kolleru is officially classified as a wildlife sanctuary and serves as a source of recreation.
  10. Samba Lake in Rajasthan is one of the largest salt producing salt lakes. Thus, it makes Rajasthan the third largest producer of salt in the country. Brackish is a mixture of salt and fresh water. Located in the state of Odisha, Chilika Lake is the largest brackish lake in India.

River

  • Rivers are one of the main sources of water on earth because most rivers carry fresh water, they are one of the main life support systems on earth. A river is a natural waterway that flows into an ocean, sea, lake or other river and is usually freshwater. In some cases, rivers flow inland and dry up at the end of their course without reaching other bodies of water. Small rivers may be referred to as brooks, brooks, creeks, and brooks.

Use of the River

  1. Rivers are the main source of drinking water, irrigation and agriculture.
  2. Distressed rivers give way to power generation.
  3. The river ensures the presence of fertile soil in the region.
  4. Asias largest river supports the most populous country in China.
  5. An important river can also be traded by providing fishing opportunities.

Economic Benefits of Lakes and Rivers

When humans began the process of settlement, nearby bodies of water were prioritized because water was considered essential for survival. These settlements eventually developed into large towns. In countries like India, where a majority of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihood, rivers are considered the most important source. Tourism is an essential thing in any country. Lakes and rivers can be developed for tourism and used for recreational purposes. Economic benefits of rivers and lakes are:

Irrigation

  • Irrigation is indispensable for agriculture. In the Indian economy, agriculture is considered as the backbone of India, with the majority of the population engaged in agriculture.

Source of Fresh Water

  • Only 2.5% of the water on Earth is fresh, of which less than 1% is fresh. Clean water is essential for human survival. It provides habitat for about one-third of aquatic life and supports fisheries development, leading to job creation and food security.

Hydroelectricity Generation

  • It is used to convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy. Flowing water is converted into mechanical energy. It is considered as a cheap and environment-friendly energy source.

Navigation

  • Navigation through bodies of water has been used for centuries to connect different places. It is considered a cheap mode of transport.

Tourism Development

  • Tourism is essential for the economy of any country. In arid regions, interwoven water sources are important for tourism. Water as a natural resource is essential for the survival of humans and other aquatic plants and animals. It is considered to be important for irrigation, navigation and hydroelectric purposes. Tourism and recreation play a fundamental role in economic benefits of lakes and rivers.
